Protecting your privacy online

Canada's privacy commissionaire stated on Dec. 5 that internet users should be able opt out of online tracking to avoid viruses, and advertising. Also stated that there are so many users that are extremely uncomfortable with the notion of their online activities being tracked. People’s choices must be respected. There are so many people today that use the internet for shopping, banking, and other personal transactions this means people have to watch their back. some ways to prevent this are Don’t accept free cookies, Check all security settings, Clear your cache, Use a firewall, Install a link scanner, Be smart about passwords, Don’t rely on a computer to remember your passwords, Don’t use public computers, Create a separate email account, Use fake information where possible, If you have to use real information, keep it in lock down, Beware sneaky check boxes, Read the Terms of Service, Say no to auto fill, Don’t divulge your email if you don’t have to.
~~~ i personally believe that if people would just do this there would be a greater decrease in crime over the internet and people would have less of a chance to get viruses and bugs in their computers. now when i go online i will be sure to follow the guidelines up ahead
October 4 2011
Hundred-year-old marathoner Fauja Singh is denied a spot in the
Guinness World Book of Records. on October 16 Fauja Singh finished a marathon. Fauja Singh dose not have a birth certificate from 1911 so he has no proof that he is 100 years old. Singh has a British passport showing his date of birth as being April 1, 1911, as well as a letter from the Queen congratulating him on his 100th birthday. it took him 8 hours to cross the finish line.
~~~ i think that this old man is amazing to be running at 100 years old and i hope he continues to do this in the rest of his life.

Gay Ottawa teen kills himself because of bulling

Jamie Hubley was a 15 year old boy that lived in Ottawa and on saterday 14Th 2011 Jamie took his own life. all Jamie wanted was to be accepted. Jamie was the only gay at his high school and was mocked all the time and battled depression. "He couldn't understand why everyone would be so cruel to him about something as simple as skating". Jamie even tried to start up a ram bow club at school and raise awareness about gays in the community but only to be shut down and crushed.
~~ i think that this is a horrible story and i feel bad for Jamie , thinking that this was the only way out and that this was all he could do to escape the pain. I give my condolences to the family and hope that they can move on as soon as possible.

Quebec mom Charged with Attempted murder of children

A woman from saint-Eustache, Quebec is being accused of attempted murder of her two children. She tried to drown them then electrocute them. After the 31 year old women was sent to court they decided to run two psychological assessments to determine whether she is mentally and physically able to stand trial their father was woken up by the screams of his children stated the head of police. The woman failed to take their four year old and their six year old and after tried to take her own life but also failed to do theat. The two children and mother were taken to the hospital with no injuries but the mother did suffer with psychological distress. The mother is still waiting trial and the children are now in the car of the father.

~~ I believe that there must be something wrong with the mother if she is willing to take the lives of her two children and herself . I also feel like there is more to the story because I feel like there must have been something to make her feel this way and I'm curious to find out what that Is.

Ontario Election on Health Care

The question is "there is already limited privatization in health care would any of the party leaders consider a larger role in the private sector in healthcare delivery" Andrea Horwath leader of the New Democrat Party started the debate saying , that the health care needs a lot of improvement and by changing our priorities we can bring back our old expectations. Mrs. Horwath also wants to change the priority of people so a woman with a baby dos not need to stay for 2 days but will be treated faster. Also wanting to invest more in long term health care and home care. Wants to prevent cutting nurses, but also doesn't say anything about finding them. Next to follow was Dalton McGinty leader of the liberals. Dalton thinks that we need to hammer out a new health accorded he still wants to work within Medicare. Dalton doesn't think that there is much wrong with the healthcare as it is right now , he states that we have the shortest wait time in the country, and we also ensure that 1.3 million Ontarians have a family doctor. Dalton ends with saying that he wants to work in public health care. Last to speak in the debate was Tim Hudak. Mr.Hudak has a bit more of a personal feeling , Mr. Hudak has seen what nurses and doctors go through and he understands or so he sais. He thinks that we need to invest 6.1 billion dollars into our health care system. "Our number one priority is to support our nurses and recruit more doctors" he sais . Tim also supports long term health care. All had different ideas some similar to one another and some very different. Voting will take place on October 6th 2011.

~~~I think that this was a great question and a very important one, I'm not sure how they are all going to follow through with what they said but I really liked Andrea Horwath's point of view. Thinking more on our priorities and our needs , also I like how she is wanting to invest in long-term health care and home care. Over all this was a great debate and I'm very curious to see who will win the election.
Manila typhoon kills at least 16 in massive flooding
Manila was hit hard with a typhoon killing at least 16 people by flooding. Most deaths occurred in metropolitan. Solders and police work together to try to evacuate the country. As floods and high winds take over the cities. Many people are trapped and left with no were to go. This time people acted a little quicker and evacuated over 2,000 people to a elementary school with lots of their goods and pets. Typhoon Nesat hit ashore before dawn Tuesday in eastern provinces and headed inland just north of Manila with up to an inch of rain per hour, half that of the storm two years ago, said government forecaster Samuel Duran. There were over 100,000 people across the country that were moved to shelter. People are still stranded but they think the worst is now over and hope to recover from this nasty typhoon.
~~I think that people that live in Manila are very brave for living there because I hate it when it rains really hard and there are strong win
ds and for them to withstand 120 km/h winds is crazy. Im really
impressed with hoe the army and police and everyone worked together to move people and help each other to safety. In the end I hope that everything goes well for Manila
Toronto jackpot winner left $21M ticket on fridge
Craig Henshaw a 42 year old teacher from Toronto came home to a nice surprise. After coming home from a backpack trip through Europe Craig found out that he had won 21 million dollars. Before leaving for his trip Craig left some lotto tickets on his fridge to sit there for the summer, and as soon as he got home he noticed and took them in and found out he won 21 million. Craig is planning on going on another trip and traveling some more. He is also planning on giving some money to his nieces and nephews to help them with their post-secondary educations. Even though Craig has 21 million he still plans on teaching just because he loves it so much.
~~~I think this was a really cool story, it shows that anyone can win the lottery and I find it pretty cool on how even though he doesn't have to work any longer he decides he wants to just because its so fun. Also the fact that he's going to help his other family is pretty cool and generous. I hope he spends his money well

Dad's reunion with girl in U.K. 'incredible

In 2008 a young girl named Pearl Da Massa was taken from her father from the U.K and was recently found in Montreal were she was living with her mother. Henry Da Massa the girls father started a global search for the seven year old girl in 2008 setting a reward of 10,000$ for her safe return . Helen Gavaghan and pearl fled to Mexico, the U.S, Toronto, and Montreal. Helen said that the only reason they fled was because Henry Da Massa beat her and abused her but this was not proven n court because there was no hard evidence. Pearl came home in September 2011 to her father acting like any other little girl in her neighborhood

~~~ I think that this is an amazing story. how the father never gave up on finding his little girl and was willing to search the whole world to find her is amazing. i cant believe how the mother could have dont this and ran so far away just to keep her daughter. im glad that the father never gave up and found her and she is home and safe now.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper's majority Conservative government will be fighting to make a pledge of legislation bundling together many crime fighting laws. the laws will contain
  • An increase in the number of mandatory minimum sentences.
  • The elimination of house arrest for violent offences.
  • A higher cost of applying for a criminal pardon.
  • New measures to combat drug crimes.
  • Stiffer jail terms for child predators.
Right now Canada's crime is at an all time low and some think that this will hike up the cost of the justice system while doing nothing to deter criminals. Peter Van Loan says "Crime is still to high in this Country" and "Our Agenda is to make our Communities safer" he believes by us committing to this bill we will make Canada a much safer place.
Bills of this content have a hard time passing without help from the NDP , Liberals, or the Bloc Quebecois. even getting into the house of commons or senate they went through a ruff time getting the bill passed. This bill has a greater chance of passing because the NDP and Liberals are backing it and because it has already made it into the house of commons AND the senate.
-----After reading this story (http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2011/09/20/pol-omnibus-crime.html) i believe that we should pass this bill. I think it should go through the house of commons because it is a great idea and sounds well thought out to keep our streets crime free. Why would you not want to pay a little more to keep your kids and family a little safer. when i'm up at my chalet we know everyone and life in such a safe community that we don't even have to lock our doors to our cars or houses and i wish that we could trust each other and live in a world with no crime and any laws like this is maby just one way to get us a little closer to that
